Project Overview
The Royal Oak in Bromyard required a comprehensive, multi-zone audio system to serve their entire pub. The brief was to provide flexible background music across all areas during normal trading hours, while also being capable of stepping up for quiz nights, private events, and function room hire.
With eight zones to cover, including an outdoor patio, a remote outdoor bar located 35 metres from the main building, a function room, and a quiet tea room, the system needed to be both powerful and versatile.
The Sound System Explained
Independent volume and source control per zone was essential, as was Bluetooth connectivity, microphone input, and the ability to connect TVs and Sky boxes. A uniform speaker aesthetic in black was also requested throughout, and the design includes a spare zone to allow for future expansion.
The Cloud Z8MK4 sits at the heart of the system, giving staff full and intuitive control over all eight zones from a single point. Each zone has its own independent volume control and input source selection, allowing the team to tailor the audio in every area of the pub, without affecting any other zone. Zone 8 has been left available as a spare channel for future expansion should the pub require it.
Paired with the Z8MK4, the Biamp Revamp8250 provides a dedicated 250W channel for each zone, ensuring consistent, reliable power delivery across all 16 speakers throughout the building and outdoor spaces. Its eight-channel configuration is a natural fit for this installation, providing headroom for both relaxed background listening and livelier event use.

The QMEDIAMIX52 serves as the control hub for the system, giving staff everything they need to manage audio in one straightforward unit.
Built-in Bluetooth, MP3 playback and FM radio provide flexible music source options, while the dedicated microphone channels - used here for both the PDM-300 desktop mic and the Chord XU1 wireless system - feature switchable VOX priority, automatically ducking the music whenever an announcement is made.
Fifteen MASK6CT wall mount speakers were deployed across zones 1 through 7, covering the main bar, games bar, front room, patio, outside bar, and function room.
The MASK6CT was chosen for its excellent versatility across both background and foreground applications, making it equally at home in the quieter front dining room and the high-energy main bar. Crucially, its IP64 weatherproof rating means the same speaker could be used throughout the entire installation resulting in a clean, uniform system from front to back. All speakers were supplied in black to complement the pub's décor.
The smaller MASK4CT was specified for the tea room - a compact, quieter area used primarily during daytime hours. Its more modest footprint is perfectly suited to the intimate scale of the space, delivering clear, balanced audio without overpowering a room intended for relaxed daytime use.
Two Cloud RSL-6 wall plates were installed in the outside bar and function room, providing localised volume and source control in the areas furthest from the central rack. This allows staff or event organisers in these zones to manage their own audio independently, without needing to return to the main mixer.
300 metres of TruSound 16/2 speaker cable was used throughout the installation. Its low-smoke halogen-free construction meets safety requirements throughout the building, while its UV and weather-resistant properties make it equally suitable for the outdoor runs to the patio and the remote outside bar.

Project Outcome
Audio Volt designed and supplied a complete, professional 8-zone audio solution tailored to every corner of The Royal Oak.
The use of IP64-rated Biamp Desono speakers throughout delivers a consistent, high-quality sound and a clean, uniform aesthetic across the entire venue. Staff have full zone-by-zone control from the central Cloud Z8MK4 mixer, while the RSL-6 wall plates give the outside bar and function room their own local control for events and private hire.
With Bluetooth, MP3, radio, TV inputs, and a microphone channel all catered for, the system is as versatile as the pub's varied programme demands, and with a spare zone ready for future use, it's built to grow with the business.
